SPARC partners are taking actions to unlikely actions to improve resident health and well-being. Here is a list of projects SPARC partners are sparking to revitalize San Pablo Avenue.

BUILDING & PRESERving affordable housing

SPARC partners are working at a fast and hard as they can to build new affordable housing for low-to-moderate residents, while working to preserve affordability for renters within the neighborhood. In the next five years, it is projected that SPARC partners will develop close to 275 new units of affordable housing.

By December 2018, San Pablo Avenue in West Oakland will have its first full service grocery store in more than a decade. Not just a grocery store, Community Foods will provide local jobs , healthy foods, and cafe space to host community gatherings.

SPARC partners are working to bring attract businesses residents want to come set up shop on the San Pablo Avenue Corridor. SPARC partners also operate a neighborhood marketplace and gathering space for micro-entrepreneurs to have an affordable place to launch, maintain, and/or expand their business. This marketplace is called the SPARC-it-Place.

supporting resident heart health

SPARC partners are providing blood pressure screenings and health education in a minute clinic format to residents at three community locations. Upcoming, the SPARC partners will launch their fourth heart health clinic at the new grocery store, Community Foods.

SPARC partners are taking a new approach to blight and illegal dumping by supporting residents with mini-grants and training to implement their own community projects. Projects have included median clean ups, community gardens, a pop-up library, and a how-to guide on how to build accessory dwelling units.
